Dr. Amy McNulty is a clinical psychologist and clinical social worker who has been treating clients for over thirty years. Her goal is to help clients achieve greater life fulfillment and happiness through the resolution of difficulties related to life situations and emotional distress. By creating achievable objectives, clients are able to develop effective coping strategies, successfully manage emotions, improve personal relationships and increase feelings of self-worth and self-esteem.
Dr. McNulty works with adult clients on an individual basis to resolve problems and help them to better their lives. Her areas of expertise include the following:
While trained in many forms of psychotherapy, Dr. McNulty mainly works from a cognitive therapy perspective. Cognitive theory is based on the assumption that thoughts are what influence feelings and behaviors and not external events such as those instigated by people and situations. Thus, changing how one thinks, becoming aware of patterns of negative, distorted thoughts and replacing these thoughts with ones based on the reality of a person or situation will subsequently change how one feels and behaves even if the external situation does not change. However, Dr. McNulty does not rigidly follow only a cognitive approach but utilizes whatever theoretical approach is needed to produce the needed change. |
